In Harmony Lambeth (IHL) was launched in 2009 inspired by the Venezuelan El Sistema Programme. It is primarily a social action programme which encourages the pursuit of musical excellence to enrich the lives of children, young people, families and the wider community around the Stockwell and Vauxhall area. IHL engages with children and young people through its immersive programme to help realise a range of outcomes including:
The ability to work effectively as part of a team
Confidence, pride and aspiration
Resilience
Mature social skills
Leadership skills
Increased self-esteem
These outcomes will enable children and young people to have more choice as the grow up, helping them to lead successful, and most importantly, happy lives!
In Harmony operates within a national framework of core principles, but is locally autonomous, responsive and entrepreneurial whilst remaining answerable to Arts Council England. In Harmony is led by Lambeth Council and is jointly funded by Arts Council England and the Department for Education.
